In 2012, Valentin accepted a job as a welder for Dick Claussen at CWM Welding in West Liberty. Before long, he began to overhear former workers coming to the shop to complain that they hadn’t been paid all their wages. His own checks began to be inconsistent – sometimes arriving late, sometimes missing some of his wages.

When Valentin decided to quit, he was owed over $1,600 in unpaid wages.

He found out about Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) and filed a complaint. IWD ruled in Valentin’s favor, and recognized that this employer has a history of similar violation, but has been unable recover any of his unpaid wages.

The employer has faced no consequences in relation to Valentin’s case
